Hawor Cultural Tour - West Ambrym
The chiefs of West Ambrym have decided to share their Nakamal and kastom with tourists and re-opened their traditional ceremonial site in 2014 to demonstrate their local dances and way of life. This is one of those unique opportunities to watch the Rom Dance where dancers are immersed in amazing pandanus cloaks and intricately crafted painted Rom masks. The dancers stomp and hoot to the beat among a crowd of colourful and imposing painted tam-tam. They also share their skills and knowledge of carving, sand-drawing, black magic and stories. Located 20 minutes drive from Craig Cove in the middle of Loleri Village it offers a unique and enlightening cultural experience that shouldn't be bypassed. Harwor have also recently opened a handicraft center. This is a great place to purchase original carvings from the master carvers. Prices for carving range from 800-5,000 Vatu.
